Frequently Asked Questions

The Classbook Programme

What exactly is a classbook?

A classbook, brought to you by OurClassBook.co.uk, is a unique and dynamic project where every student in the class has a voice. Each pupil contributes two pages: one dedicated to their writing and another to their artwork. This initiative not only supports educational engagement but also fosters a sense of achievement and enhances literacy competencies.

What does the publishing kit comprise of?

Our specially curated publishing kit provides 68 pages: 32 designed for writing and another 32 for students’ drawings. We also ensure the kit has sections for the book cover, Title Page, Dedication Page, and an Introduction to the Young Authors.

For smoother navigation, we include a student-made sample book and an in-depth Teacher’s Guide. Additionally, there are Parent Order Forms for those keen on getting a tangible keepsake of their child’s literary debut.

Is the publishing kit really free?

Yes! The programme is free for schools to take part and only requires a minimum order of one book to publish. We also include one free classroom copy of the book as a thank you to the class teacher for publishing with us.

We will turn your students’ masterpiece into a full-colour, professionally-bound book. Everything you need to turn your class into real published authors is included in your kit.

In exchange for this, all we ask is that parents are given the opportunity to order a copy of their kid’s book, if they want to. Included in the publishing kit are parent order forms.

Parents can order a copy of their child’s book from £10* and are under no obligation to purchase.

* The pre-order price will be available during the publication period (from when the teacher hands out the Parents Order Forms until they send the manuscript to our offices). After this period, parents can always purchase extra copies via the website as well (through the “Order Published Books” section). The price will be a few pounds higher as we send the copies directly to the student’s address and not to the school as is the case with the main order.

Could you elaborate on the 'submission date'?

The submission date marks the day we anticipate receiving your classbook for the final publishing phase. It’s a flexible date chosen by you and can be amended as needed. It takes 4-5 weeks to process, publish and deliver your class’ books to you from when we receive your class’ manuscript for publishing. Please keep this timeline in mind, especially if you’re aiming for a term-end launch or a special unveiling ceremony.

We also provide a pre-paid postage label, ensuring hassle-free returns. For any adjustments or queries regarding the submission date, feel free to reach out at info@www.ourclassbook.co.uk.

Publishing

How many pages are included in the publishing kit?

Our publishing kit comes packed with 68 pages. This comprises 32 pages dedicated to writing and another 32 for illustrations. Additionally, the kit provides pages for the book cover, a Title Page, a Dedication Page, and an About the Authors Page.

What's the largest book size I can opt for?

The OurClassBook publishing kit is designed to accommodate up to 32 students, with each student getting two pages: one for writing and one for illustrating.

Should you wish to create a  book with additional pages, do get in touch with our team. We’ll be pleased to talk through our options for larger book editions.

Is it possible to incorporate photos in our classbook?

Yes! Photos can be a wonderful inclusion in your classbook. Simply print the desired photo directly onto the provided kit page or affix it using a Pritt Stick. We advise against the use of Sellotape.

How can I ensure our classbook is bright and colourful?

For the written sections, black ink is the best choice for clarity and vibrancy. We recognise that for younger students, using ink might not be feasible. In such cases, we’d recommend a dark pencil.

As for the drawings, markers will give you those bold and lively colours. While coloured pencils are acceptable, they might not yield as vibrant a result in the final print. We kindly request that you not use crayons, glitter, or Crayola Twistables for your illustrations.

Is it acceptable to use Tippex on the pages?

Certainly. Tippex can be used. However, do bear in mind that it might result in faint “shadows” on the final print. To ensure the best quality, it’s advised to use Tippex sparingly. We also offer printable replacement materials for your convenience.

When is the deadline to send my publishing kit back to OurClassBook?

Aim to dispatch your kit to OurClassBook a week prior to your chosen submission date. We cover the costs of postage. Simply use your pre-paid Royal Mail label. If you require a replacement return label, contact us at info@ourclassbook.co.uk.

What's the procedure for returning my completed kit to OurClassBook?
